Disarm if you're stupid

There's a pattern here:

1. The West convinces Iraq to allow weapons inspectors into the country. Once those inspectors verify that there are no frightening weapons present, the West attacks.
2. The West convinces Syria to leave Lebanon. Shortly afterwards the West attacks.

If I were a running a Middle Eastern country, and the West asked me to do something for the sake of peace, I would laugh in their face and then immediately start trying to get hold of the scariest weapons I could find.

As far as I can tell, American foreign policy is its own worst enemy.
