I got a call from a headhunter yesterday. I'm used to having headhunters call me and ask whether I'm interested in looking for a new job, however that's not what this one asked. This one wanted to know whether I was interested in hiring. I suppose this only makes sense, since I'm now in more of a management position, but the change is unexpected and somewhat unsettling. In the eyes of the headhunter, my role has changed from product to consumer.

Well, there's only one thing left to figure out. Are you hiring? :-D
Posted by: Michael Tucker at March 25, 2004 02:12 PMI was starting to worry that your new stealth job would take up so much time that you wouldn't have a chance to post anymore!
(a selfish worry, I know, since if if is/were the case, you'd probably be having a blast doing... well, whatever it is that you are)
What an interesting position in which to be placed. Was it a generally good feeling, or a generally bad one? Did you feel as if you'd taken a step up in their eyes, or was it a bit of a downer to realize that now you're sought not only because of your own skills but because of what you can provide to others? All of the above? None?
I must admit, I'm curious because I've never been in either position. You lead a very interesting life.
Posted by: Gnomon at March 25, 2004 05:06 PMI wouldn't say it was generally good or bad -- more like it woke me up to the fact that there are a lot of political, economic, and social games and power dynamics that you aren't even aware of until suddenly you're a part of them. In that regard it felt somewhat like a cross between "interesting social observation" and "useful thing to keep in mind when considering the implications of clout and influence".
I've been feeling somewhat guilty about not posting very much recently. It's not just the new job -- we're also still doing a lot of work on the house, and that takes up whatever time I have left over after work. Hopefully we'll be done with the house by June or so, and I'll have more time to post and pursue spare-time projects.
